Body by Mary

Pilates was developed in the 1920's by legendary trainer, Joseph H. Pilates. Pilates is a series of exercises that focuses on strengthening the core postural muscles of the body. A strong core helps keep the body functioning properly, and is essential to providing support for the spine. Pilates exercises teach awareness of breathings, alignment of the spine, and strengthening of the deep torso muscles. The types of equipment used in Pilates are:
  • Mat
  • Reformer
  • Cadillac
  • Stability Chair
  • Arc Barrel
Sessions are one hour and include exercises specific to your individual needs. Upon our initial meeting, we will discuss any issues or injuries that might be a concern for you, and I will typically do a postural analysis. We will then discuss the "basic principals" to familiarize you with the foundations of Pilates and what it can do for you.

Mary brings skill, expertise and humor to her work. Because of Mary, I've learned a lot about the importance of flexibility and core strength in my overall health, and I've experienced the benefits first-hand as a result of our workouts. I've never met another trainer who combines aerobics, weights and pilates as effectively as Mary does. Her approach is balanced, fun and feels great. ~ Andrew Mercy ~
